Since 2006, Kabira has been working to build an inclusive green economy. She has focused specifically on the intersection between creating good green jobs and opportunities for people who face systemic barriers to employment, particularly for those coming home from incarceration.

Kabira recently stepped down as the CEO of Retrievr, a Closed Loop Partners company focused on electronics and textile recycling. She took on this role after her years as Founder and CEO of Isidore Electronics Recycling (2011-2016) and then Homeboy Recycling (2016-2020). Both companies are full service e-waste recycling and IT asset disposition social enterprises focused on creating employment opportunities.

Kabira holds a Master’s degree in public policy from the University of Southern California and a B.A. from Vassar College. She worked for the City of Los Angeles as Senior Field Deputy for (then) Council President Eric Garcetti and with Van Jones's Green For All. Honors and awards include “Sustainable Social Entrepreneur of the Year” by the L.A. Sustainable Business Council and the inaugural “Smart on Crime” award by (then) California Attorney General Kamala Harris. In 2019, Kabira was featured as the first-ever woman to grace the cover of Recycling Today magazine. She spends her time in Brooklyn, Los Angeles and Philadelphia with her husband and her son.

Kabira is currently working on a memoir.
